Detectives Lennie Briscoe and Ed Green investigate the death of 53 year-old Marjorie Hallenbeck who was found in a hospital solarium. She had been beaten and then seemingly hit her head on the corner of a coffee table, dieing from a ruptured spleen. She had checked herself into the hospital the previous day for tests and hospital security insist nothing out of the ordinary happened during the night. The family says some of her jewelry is missing and the police initially suspect an orderly, Vic Fazioli, with prior convictions for burglary but he has an alibi. Her husband suffered from Alzheimer's and a purchase in the hospital gift shop leads the police to believe she may have been seeing someone else, who turns out to be a con man who preys on wealthy widows. The solution to the murder lies elsewhere however and presents the DAs office with an ethical dilemma. Written by garykmcd

Detectives Briscoe and Curtis investigate the murder of undergraduate Bridget Kaylin, who is found dead in her college's library. They learn from campus authorities that there have been a number of attacks on female students recently, so they check out an ex-boyfriend and several of her friends, but that leads to nothing. A credit-card receipt leads them to a posh restaurant, where one of the workers recognizes her photo and is convinced that she working as a high-class prostitute. The detectives set up a sting, and one of Bridget's classmates admits that several of them have been working as high-class call girls, organized by Shelley Taggert with the tacit approval - if not more - of her father, businessman Barry Taggert. Detectives Briscoe and Logan investigate the death of lawyer Arthur Kapinski, who is found shot in the head while he was seated at his office desk. They find that Kapinski had a number of irate clients who felt he wasn't adequately representing them. Several of them were trying to retrieve money from a failed Savings and Loan run by Willard Tappan and several clients had paid Kopinski up front to pay for his research. Kopinski was running a scam and the police focus on John Curran who apparently snapped after learning his mother had paid him the last of her savings. The case goes full circle and ADA McCoy is convinced that Tappan was somehow behind it. It's not quite straightforward however and ADA McCoy has to get Curran to testify against Tappan. Rick Mason is the host of a trashy tabloid TV show, the kind that likes to create confrontations among guests, all in the hopes of getting ever better ratings. For his latest program, the guests are a young boy and his mother and the psychiatrist who molested him three years before but has now been released from prison. The show has barely started when the boy's estranged father bursts onto the stage and shoots the psychiatrist, killing him. Detectives Briscoe and Logan seem to have an pretty straightforward case but soon begin to suspect that Mason may have set up the confrontation and was well aware that such a confrontation could be violent. ADA Stone is keen to prosecute Mason but it will be difficult to overcome Mason's popularity and to convince a jury of his guilt. Written by garykmcd
